I love your figure painting Gary.
You can now pre order Pinstriped paint from Geoff. :D
Hope the decals hold up Al, never seen the white one built up before.

Al, looking forward to seeing what you do with the Capri; I always liked that body style. Gary, could not think of a more inspirational figure during these crazy times we find ourselves,

Shay, my dad used to work in a paint factory in his youth and used to tell me they made tartan paint. Maybe he and Geoff were work mates. Mind you Geoff would have to be about 100 years old now. LOL
Looking forward to seeing what you do with that one Chris.
Gary, I agree with Chris. A true inspirational figure and I know you'll make a superb job of it.
Dirk. Yes going with the boxart.
Shay. The decals look to be in superb condition and are dated 2013.
I started this one a while back but screwed up the paint. I got it stripped in BF and put it back in the box. Somewhere along the line, this happened but at least it's an easy fix.

i fancy the challenge of tackling something tiny so......

Thanks for that but hopefully that won't be necessary
I finished the repair, primed, laid three coats of white and three coats of clear. Thats all the clear it's getting, 'cos as my good friend Shay is fond of pointing out, being a race car, the real deal probably wasn't all that glossy anyway.
Besides, its mostly covered in decals anyway!!! LOL

It wouldn't stop me from polishing it mind. lol
Tricky black window rubbers, I've still found nothing as good as the old Tamiya paint markers.
Looking good, keep going, did you test a decal yet?

Well if the tiny ones work, you'll be fine, lots of Microsol.

I love Microsol, it sort of 'melts' the decals onto the paint.
Probably not needed on a racing car to be fair.

Although the kit will build into a nice 'shelf' model, as an ex motorised kit, it leaves much to be desired. No engine, very little interior detail (not even decals for seat harness) no front roll cage and no rear inner wheel arches.
The dashboard in the 1:1 is almost all black so just to lift the interior a little, I gave the it some artistic expression!!! LOL

Great seamless repair to the Capri Al and that dash looks incredible. Looking forward to seeing the Hind fly paul.
Making a bit of progress with removing the "bat" from the boat. Still dialing in the front end work with repeated sand, prime putty cycles; thats getting there. I also removed the curves from the tail and side wings then sanded the ridges on the side wings. Just started on the canopy ... did not care for the shrouded look and cut the "V" off and integrated it into the canopy. There was a large gap that was filled with a sheet of styrene. Still a lot of work on restyling the canopy to come.
Work continues as I try to blend this fill into the body to (hopefully) make it seamless. You can also see one modified side wing and the other as molded.
Used tape to guide the cut to straighten out the rear of the body.
DId not care for tis design element.
So I cut out the "V" and attached it to the canopy. This left a large gap that also had to be fillled.
The white is a filler made to close up the gap. The "V" still needs to blended in and the window area will be enlarged.

Tidy result Al it's far from easy. Testors make paint markers, I got one posted over from Angelo, it looks like the old Tamiya ones. It's not as good, but it's better than using ink markers.
Difficult to get hold of this side of the Pond.
They're called Testors enamel paint markers

The front screen rubber came out reasonably well accept for being glossy.
Gary: I'm thinking brushing matt would maybe make the marker pen ink run!!!
Shay: Not sure. Maybe the oil tank for the dry sump?

Leave the widow rubbers alone now, they're fine.
You won't even see them with the decals.

That's the plan Stan!!! LOL
Just have to finish painting the grille then it's on to the 'make or break' stage of the build...... Decaling!!!

The model itself is finished as far as I'm going to take it.
Made a start on the decals and I have to say they are amongst the worst I have ever worked with. All of the larger ones broke when 'fettleing' them down and one or two of the black areas need a little touch in.!!!!! :
The roof and boot decals (all one decal per side) were a real nightmare.
Still a lot to apply.

Tamiya decals can look perfect, but will still break up in water.
Can you save what's left with a light spray of clear?
