'30 Ford Model A Coupe
Mon Nov 15, 2021 2:35 pm
Saturday mid-afternoon, I decided to take a trip down to Hobby Emporium, my local hobby shop. I looked around and spotted the re-issued Revell '30 Model A sitting on the shelf. I just had to get it and with four kits on the shelf, this kit came home with me. The box art really grabbed me and the light blue '30 Model A was the car I had to build! Once I got home, I opened the kit and was amazed at the beautiful molding of the kit and I had to rummage through the paint can drawers for a can of light blue. Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue is a close match to this box art and the last time I used this paint was on the Revell Ford Bronco a few years ago. I was told that the entire run of Revell '30 Model A kits at Hobby Emporium was sold out by 5:00 PM which makes this a popular kit!

Nice one Mike. Looking forward to it.
I'd like it too Paul but I don't think it has ever been available in the UK.

Thanks beowulf and Al! I doubt that this kit has made its way to the UK yet. It has been reissued and it is selling like hotcakes here in the States!

The '30 Model A has been washed and is drying. The engine is partially assembled and awaiting primer and paint. I added the decals to the tires and with a little setting solution, they came out perfectly!

I painted the body, wheels, side panels and frame for the '30 Model A with Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue. Looks great!

I got the tires assembled, but the whitewalls don't go all the way to the inner edge of the tire by the wheel. I may have to paint this with some flat white or use my white Gelly Roll pen as I had used on the front tires. I fired up the paintbooth and I painted the engine and the dash panel with Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue.

Thanks beowulf! This color is close to the box art and I did fall in love with the box art!

I have finished assembloing the wheels and tires, but I am undecided about what to do with the gap between the whitewall and the wheel. The interior sides are in, but they could use a little detailing. I also painted the interior roof white. Then I wired the engine and once the body and interior has been added, I'll add the ignition coil.

The colour looks great Mike and is a very close match to the box art.
Not sure what I would do with the white walls either but the beauty trims look great!!

Thanks Al! I'm still not sure what to do with the whitewalls. They did look better when they were wet and just applied. Now, not so much.

Since the paintbooth was fired up today, I painted the firewall and the rooftop with Tamiya TS-26 Pure White. The rooftop will get a coating of flat or semigloss clear afterwards.

I got the interior floor added with embossing powder for carpet, the fuel cell and battery along with the exhaust system. I painted the mufflers red to simulate Cherry Bomb mufflers.

More work done on the '30 Ford Model A Coupe. I want this to be finished on Saturday morning before I head off to the latest meeting of the Classic Plastic Model Club. I added more of the suspension pieces and then I added the body. The last picture shows the top added to the rest of the body, but it is not glued on yet. One of the things I had noticed earlier was that the interior seat would not fit through the open top like the instructions show. The seat is just too wide and so the top is still loose! I need to paint the rear interior surround where the top meets the body so that all is the same flat white color.
