USS Long Beach
Sat Jan 09, 2021 11:04 pm
I just had a go at posting a photo for the first time. It's not upside down or sideways so I guess I did alright.
This is a 1/700 scale Dragon kit of the Cold War Warrior USS Long Beach. Dragon has two versions of this model, this one is the 1980 kit. The worlds first nuclear powered surface warship. I started building it in November. After assembling and then painting the larger sub-assemblies I began gluing them to the hull this week. It's about 70% done at this stage.

"thanks for being the first to launch in this category" Oh Chris........ groan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, It's still in the docks.
Nice one Chris, I take it you are building her as a proper warship and not not when she was a cargo ship delivering coal?

Thanks guys.
Al, Long Beach model is almost out of the docks. I don't know about coal carrier LOL but it's interesting that the ship was partially scrapped many years ago except for part of the hull which is still floating dockside somewhere. Makes me think that it is perhaps radioactive and it is in the too hard basket at the moment.
