Custom Cadillac Eldorado Foose Design

Now that my mojo seems to have returned, I have chosen my next build.



I bought this kit the last time I visited JohnJ in Salt Lake City in 2018.

I've chosen this particular kit as I think it will sit very nicely alongside my Chrysler 300.



Unlike the El Camino, it will be built with the engine. However, while I will add the HT leads, it will not be as detailed as the Chrysler 300

No colour chosen yet but it will be metallic.

I really can feel the old mojo returning. So much so, I am going to detail the engine as far as possible, remove the side chrome spears and fit modern 20" wheels and tyres. Going for this sort of look, maybe even with a hood scoop:





I'm also going to change the wheels for these:

Oh!.... and just to make it even wilder..... this will be the colour:

Well it's too late to go back now. LOL

Side spears on left side gone. Primer may yet show a shadow. We'll see.

The body is now fully de-speared so I've been working on the stance in conjunction with the wheels. I think it may need to go a tad lower at both ends.



Hogging out the wheel arches will further improve the look too methinks!

Got the wheel arches hogged out to where I want them but I'm of the opinion that the rake needs to be a tad higher at the rear.

I raised the rear a tad but now I'm thinking I should take it back down again!!

The look of the Pro-Street bonnet scoop wasn't working for me, so I've decided to attempt to carve my own from two pieces of 2.05mm thick styrene which gives a scale height of 102.5mm which to my eye looks about right to the scoop on my inspiration model.

Fair way to go on my test piece for the scoop but I'm learning.

Made some more progress on my test bonnet scoop.

Well I got the new bonnet scoop made, the body prepped and sprayed with Zero Paints Chevy Camaro
deep magenta. Gloss coats to follow

Been really struggling with the paint on this one. Been stripped twice and I'm still far from happy with it but I'm going to live with it.

Ignore the front wheels position, they are just mocked up.

The top is removable but I personally think it looks better with it. Now go and build something yourself and show us once again you skills at 'modifying'.

With the crappy Tamiya Ford Zakspeed Capri out of the way, it's time to get back to this one.

Despite not being able to see any 'shadow' of the chrome side strips I removed, even after primer and matt bade colour coats, it seems, for some unfathomable reason, that the gloss coats brought them back. Even stranger to me is, they are actually recesed!!!!!

So it's back to the sanding again!!!! Oh boy!!!

Filler applied.... so now I wait.

Well the filling and sanding didn't work. I could still see the shadows when I applied primer. SO...... in a last ditch attempt, I just kept sanding vigorously for a couple of hours and lo and behold, they have gone. 




Assuming they don't yet come back, I now just need to sand out the 'vigorous' sanding marks!!!!

I didn't see the problem until you show the latest pics and it looks so much better. Well done.

It does look better.

I finished the sanding down and got everything looking nice and smooth. Primed again and left it for two days. Checked it this morning and all was well, no signs of the side trim 'shadows'.  Great!!!

NO!!!!

Sprayed the colour coats this afternoon and they are back. Not as bad admittedly............ but what the X%*& is going on. It seem like this base colour coat brings out the 'shadows'

Ah well, three attempts is enough. I'm just going to live with it and move on.

That is weird and annoying.

That sucks.

I'm pulling the plug on this one for the time being. Just too frustrating right now.

Two coats of Promatic clear applied ten hours apart and this happens!!!!!!!!!!! 



Got to find an alternative clear to the Promatic. Seems like the latestbatches/versions are too 'hot'

So it's goodnight Vienna I'm afraid.

LOL. It'll get stripped in the next few days then go back in the box for a while. Come out again maybe when I complete my next build.
